It\u2019s largely a forgotten sport that was only active for a little over a decade during the early turning of the twentieth century. Why? Insanely dangerous and insanely expensive. During a time when World War I veterans with a death wish and a new level of adrenaline to chase along with the <em>obscene <\/em>amounts of money being tossed around during the <em>Roaring Twenties<\/em>, such an exciting form of entertainment was perfect for its era.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drivingnowhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/unnamed-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-403\" style=\"width:382px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drivingnowhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/unnamed-3.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.drivingnowhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/unnamed-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drivingnowhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/unnamed-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.drivingnowhere.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/unnamed-3-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now what WAS board track racing? Imagine oval racing\u2026 but scarier.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Started on two wheels and expanded to four wheel competition, where my interest lies. It was called \u201cboard\u201d track racing because the tracks were constructed with wooden boards, and with a minimal knowledge of the engineering behind it, the sketchiness of these tracks was an understatement. Where the 1950\u2019s and 1960\u2019s era of racing saw a tremendous amount of fatalities, what was seen during the era of board track racing was basically a blood sport for the spectator\u2019s entertainment. Few survived long enough to retire.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcVPnN3QG-gn4YDaewHNt6_936fLZI1AmydD8KBrzfsNt8_wpYevtNjXf6ZU1G8LcX12JgghBNdGysNdqj0vzL6YTpljbqirt9MXls7FoEcreE57w6WSqw6QlpcE3yyNtin_ROMu6ZRWVVP6KJlau_puvU?key=cTac-PJHFajMDbMpdc5HQ7s_\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:621px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>When the Great Depression came Board Track Racing went. With few survivors from that era, there just wasn\u2019t really anybody clamoring for it to come back when the world economy recovered. And with the increased focus on safety over the years we\u2019ll likely never see anything like it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, the <strong>concept<\/strong> of essentially wacky hot wheels inspired track racing just seems fun. You see it in arcade racing videogames and people love the <em>idea<\/em> of it\u2026 but you won\u2019t see anybody with a pulse race this way again\u2026 in reality. Perhaps iRacing could give it a crack?
